WELCOME TO THE 2010 SWIM SEASON
AT ROYCEFIELD SWIM CLUB
Janine Erickson and Donna McCormick, your Social Committee, would like to welcome you to the 2010 season at Roycefield Swim Club. If you are a returning owner or a new owner, we look forward to seeing you this season.
We hope you are as excited about the upcoming season as we are! We have a number of fun events planned to make your family’s summer at Roycefield memorable.
First and foremost, please familiarize yourself with the Roycefield website, http://www.roycefield.org/. The website should be your first reference for all social activity information. In an effort to eliminate email overload, we will be minimizing email reminders regarding current social activities. Social activities will be posted on the Roycefield website and the white board outside of the Guard Office. Please visit the website and click on the “Event Calendar” for the most current information on all social activities as well as swim meets.
We are excited to have four Junior Activities Coordinators (JACs) again this season to assist the Social Committee with the weekly activities. Jessica Karan will be returning along with three new JACs, Cassidy Delaney, Alexis Petrosino, and Theresa Riccardi. The girls will be working hard this summer to keep the younger RSC members entertained with a variety of activities. They will be hosting our weekly Game Day Wednesdays as well as Craft Day Thursdays.
Please Note: Parents must remain on-site while children participate in activities with the JACs.
Keeping with past season activities, the following social events will be returning again this summer.
The following activities will occur on a weekly basis:
* Tuesdays will be “Dinner Nite” from 5-7 PM. Ditch the cooking and come spend the evening with friends. Enjoy Pizza, Chicken (we’ve used Chicken Holiday) or whatever is being served…check the board for details. Two families are needed to run each “Dinner Nite”. The duties of running this event are: Posting a board at the pool listing two “dinner times”- 5 PM and 6 PM- and what is being ordered (usually pizza). Members sign up for a time and what they would like to order. When the food arrives, the “hosting” families help distribute the food and take the payments. They will also help with buying snacks (i.e. Little Debbie’s) and drinks to be sold at dinner. Hosting a Dinner Night is worth 2 work bond hours for each family.
* Wednesdays are Game Days from 2-4 PM. Our JACs will be coordinating the Game of the week. Games are played out in the front picnic area.
* Thursdays are Craft Days from 2 - 4 PM. Our JACs will be coordinating each week’s craft. For a nominal fee, kids can make a beautiful craft item…check the board for details. Please note, the rain date for craft day is Friday.
* Every other Sunday from 2 – 4 PM will be Ice Cream Social Day. Cool off by making your own Sundaes! This event is run by one family. The “hosting” family is responsible for posting signs at the pool, buying the ice cream, toppings, spoons, bowls, and napkins. Hosting an Ice Cream Social is worth 2 work bond hours for one family.
REMEMBER: All expenses for hosting an event are reimbursed. Keep all receipts for any purchases made to run any of these events. Reimbursement can only be given with a receipt. It is the member’s responsibility to obtain an Expense Reimbursement Form. Forms are located on the website under the “forms” tab.
The following Special Events are being planned:
July 4th Party and Labor Day Party:
* Our annual 4th of July Party is scheduled for Saturday, July 3rd from 3:00-8:00 PM (Rain Date 7/4 3:00 – 8:00 PM).
* The Labor Day Party is scheduled for Saturday 9/4 from 1:00-6:00PM (Rain Date 9/5 1:00-6:00 PM) ~ format is the same as the July 4th party.
The cost to attend each party will be $7/person or $25/family with a guest fee of $9/person or $35/family.
Get ready for some food, fun and DJ entertainment!
Hamburgers & hot dogs are provided. Please bring a side dish AND dessert to serve 10-12 people to share. Please indicate what food you will be bringing to the party on the sign up sheet at the pool.
Feel free to bring your own foods to snack on and be sure to bring a cooler of your favorite beverages. Remember, NO glass or bottles in the pool area please. Broken glass is a hazard to ALL.
This year we are looking for members to help out with the jobs listed below for BOTH the 4th of July and Labor Day parties. Hours for work bond credit are in parenthesis.
* Set up Crew (2 families) (2 hours) - pre-party set up
* Clean up Crew (2 families) (2 hours) – after the party is over
* Grillers (2 members per shift) (2 x 2 Hour shifts) – to cook those burgers and dogs.
* Food Shoppers (2 families) (4 hours) - purchase hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls, soda, condiments, and paper goods one-two days before party.
* Food Runners/helpers (2 families) (2 hours) – bringing food to/from guard office during party. Also be available for small “emergency” food purchases during day of party.
* Goodie baskets for kids raffle (1 family) (2 hours) - to purchase items and put together goodies baskets raffled to kids during party.
The Sign-up Form to attend the party and all relevant information will be posted on the website.
* Tween, Pre-Teen, and Teen Nites will all be held again this year. Please look for dates for Tween Night (for kids entering 3rd & 4th grade), Pre-teen Night (for kids entering 5th, 6th and 7th grade) and Teen Night (for kids entering 8th – 12th grade) posted on the calendar on the website. These parties are intended to give the younger pool members a chance to have a night of fun with their friends and without their parents! Pizza is provided, and parents send in desserts to share. Parents are needed to help chaperone during these events. We ask one member to coordinate the event and distribute jobs to others who volunteer. Jobs include shopping for snacks and drinks, helping with dinner, dessert and games, checking kids into the party, and collecting entrance money during the event. Helping with each party is worth 4 work bond hours.
* Movie Nights are back!! This year we will be hosting two Family Night at the Movies: one in July and one in August. To give the adult pool members a night out, we will be hosting Adult Night at the Movies in July. So grab a blanket and head to the picnic area once the sun sets for a movie under the stars!! We will have the Roycefield Concession stand ready with goodies and popcorn for purchase. We are grateful to the Szela family for donating the use of their DVD projector and special big screen to make these nights happen. Dates and information will be forthcoming and posted on the website. We welcome movie title suggestions!
IMPORTANT WORK BOND JOB INFORMATION:
Remember, each family is required to work off 4 hours to receive their bond money back. Depending on the job you select and the intensity of the labor involved, you will be given certain credit towards your bond. For example, Dinner Nights, Ice Cream Socials and Movie Nights run 2 hours; therefore, a family who works these events will receive 2 hours credit towards their bond.
Please consider signing up for an event(s) to work off your bond. Together we can have an enjoyable, fun-filled summer. You can sign up to run an event by sending an e-mail to events@roycefield.org . If there is an event you would like to recommend adding to the calendar, please let us know. We are always open for suggestions.
We look forward to seeing you poolside!
