Objective:
To provide swim instruction to all Roycefield Swim Club members who wish to learn and/or improve basic swimming skills. Water safety is also an integral part of the program at all levels. We offer two different programs, both of which are open to all Roycefield families. Certain pre-requisites apply.
Additionally, the Roycefield Rapids Swim Team is open to all families of all Roycefield owners. Please refer to the Rapids section of the website for more information. Completion of the Swim Lesson Program is NOT a prerequisite for joining the swim team.
The specific session dates are available on the appropriate Registration Form which is posted on the website.
Please note: The YMCA in Hillsborough also offers year round swim lessons and stroke instruction.
Fee: Roycefield families are offered swim instructions at a nominal fee of $15 per session per swimmer. In order to offer this program to our entire membership we limit attendance to one session per swimmer per summer.
Lesson Outline:
Each session is two weeks in length; Monday through Friday. If July 4th falls on a weekday, no lessons will be held.
Day One: All swimmers will be evaluated on the first day of the session to ensure they are placed in the appropriate skill group. Although we ask the parent to self-assess their child, the Swim Instructors reserve the right to move a child to ensure the appropriate lesson group.
Throughout the two week session the swimmers will practice skills designed for their ability level. Specific instruction will be provided to each child as necessary for successful completion of the skills.
Day 10: Parents/guardians are welcome to observe lessons on the final day of the program. At the end of each session the swimmer will receive a personal evaluation and certificate of completion or certificate of advancement.
Program Conditions:
We ask that you choose a session that your child will be available for the entire two week session (no planned vacations, camps, school enrichment programs, etc) and that you will make every effort to attend all daily lessons.
The swim instructor’s sole responsibility during swim lessons is swim instruction. While many of the instructors are also lifeguards when the Club is open for general swimming, their role during swim lessons is not that of a lifeguard or general employee of the Club. No one other than the session attendee will be permitted inside the gates of the Club during lessons. The Swim Instructor Coordinator or another designee will be present at the gate to check in all children. Family members are welcome to remain on our grounds outside the gate during lessons.
How to Sign-Up
The summer season registration form will be available on the RSC website by April 1 of each year. The deadline for registration is May 20 of each year. We cannot guarantee availability for members after May 20. The deadlines for August members is communicated separately as part of August membership details.
How and when will I know to which session my child has been enrolled?
The session schedule will be posted on the RSC website by June 1. If a “preferred” session is NOT available the member will be contacted directly and offered another session. If an alternate session is not convenient the $15 fee will be promptly returned.
When is payment due?
A check for the full amount is to be submitted with the registration form. The check will NOT be presented for payment until the first day of the session.
Fee: Roycefield families are offered an exceptional Stroke and Turn Clinic in August. The fee for swimmers ages 6-8 is $20 and the fee for swimmers ages 9-12 is $40.
Program Details:
A minimum of 6 swimmers is required for each group.
No more than 15 swimmers will be accepted into a group. A wait list will be created if the maximum is reached. We will then determine feasibility of adding additional sessions.
No discounts or refunds will be given for missed days.
Program Conditions:
The swim instructor’s sole responsibility during the stroke and turn clinic is stroke refinement. While many of the instructors are also lifeguards when the Club is open for general swimming, their role during the stroke and turn clinic is not that of a lifeguard or general employee of the Club. No one other than the session attendee will be permitted inside the gates of the Club during lessons. The Swim Instructor Coordinator or another designee will be present at the gate to check in all children. Family members are welcome to remain on our grounds outside the gate during lessons.
