WELCOME TO THE 2008 SWIM
SEASON
AT ROYCEFIELD SWIM CLUB
The Roycefield Social Committee, headed
by Janine Erickson & Donna McCormick would like to extend a warm
welcome to all of our returning members as well as those new to the
Roycefield Family. We are all looking forward to a fun-filled
summer!
This letter is to inform you of the activities
that have been planned for this season and how to go about signing up
to help with the events. Remember, these events cannot take place
unless there are people to run them so please choose some activities
and work off that bond!
There will be weekly activities as well
as some special events. Please check the calendar on the website
at Roycefield.org as well as the white board outside the Pool Manager’s
office at the pool for details.
The following activities will occur on
a weekly basis:
- Tuesday’s beginning on July
1st, will be “Dinner Nite” from 5-7 PM. Ditch the cooking
and come spend the evening with friends. Enjoy Pizza, Chicken
(we’ve used Chicken Holiday) or whatever is being served…check the
board for details. Two families are needed to run each “Dinner
Nite”. The duties of running this event are: Posting a board
at the pool listing two “dinner times”- 5 PM and 6 PM- and what
is being ordered (usually pizza). Members sign up for a time and
what they would like to order. When the food arrives, the “hosting”
families help distribute the food and take the payments. They
will also help with buying snacks (i.e. Little Debbie’s) and drinks
to be sold at dinner. Hosting a Dinner Night is worth 2 work bond hours
for each family.
- Wednesday’s are Float Days!
Bring your favorite floats or use the Noodles at the pool for the day.
When you are tired of swimming, come to the front picnic tables and
join in a game during Game Day Wednesdays! Game Day will run from
2 - 4 PM. The member running the event can coordinate a game for
the children, for example: Bingo, Picto, Charades or any other
game that would enable many children to play, along with purchasing
a small “prize” item such as lollipops. There is a Bingo game
available for use in the guard office. Hosting a Game Day is worth
2 work bond hours for one family.
- Thursday’s are Craft Days
from 2 - 4 PM. For a nominal fee, come out and make a beautiful
craft item…check the board for details. One family is needed
to run each Craft Day. The duties of running this event include
deciding on a craft, posting a sign announcing the craft and cost (usually
only $1 or $2 each), purchasing supplies, and then helping the children
complete the craft and collecting the fee. The family “hosting”
this event will be reimbursed for supplies. Please note, the rain
date for craft day is Friday. Please ensure that you are able
to do your craft on Thursday OR Friday for the week you choose.
Hosting a Craft Day is worth 2 work bond hours for one family.
- Every other Sunday beginning
on 6/29 from 2 – 4 PM will be Ice Cream Social Day. Cool off
by making your own Sundaes! This year, we ask that only one family
run this event. The “hosting” family is responsible for buying
the ice cream, toppings, spoons, bowls, and napkins. Hosting an
Ice Cream Social is worth 2 work bond hours for one family.
REMEMBER: All expenses for hosting
an event are reimbursed. Keep all receipts for any purchases made to
run any of these events. Reimbursement can only be given with
a receipt.
The following Special Events are being
planned:
- Our annual 4th
of July Party is scheduled for Friday, July 4th from 3:30-8:30
PM (Rain Date 7/5 3:30 – 8:30 PM). Get ready for some food,
fun, and DJ entertainment!
The cost of the party will be $5/person
or $20/family with a POOL guest fee of $8/person or $20/family.
Hamburgers & Hot dogs will be
served. Please bring a side dish AND dessert to share…sign up
to indicate what you are bringing so that we can ensure a variety of
delicious foods!
Feel free to bring your own foods
to snack on and be sure to bring a cooler of your favorite beverages.
Remember, no glass or bottles in the pool area please.
The
Sign-up Form to attend the party has been sent via email.
- Tween, Pre-Teen, and Teen
Nites will all be held in July this year. Tween Night (for kids
entering 3rd & 4th grade) is scheduled for
July 9th from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Rain date is July 10th.
Teen Night (for kids entering 7th – 12th grade)
is scheduled for July 15th from 8 – 11pm. Rain date
is July 17th. Pre-teen Night (for kids entering 5th
& 6th grade) is scheduled for July 21st from
7 – 10pm. Rain date is July 22nd. These parties
are intended to give the younger pool members a chance to have a night
of fun with their friends and without their parents! Pizza is
provided, and parents send in desserts to share. We do need some parents
to help with Chaperoning for the night; which would include helping
with dinner, dessert and games. Helping with each party is worth
4 work bond hours.
- We are looking into scheduling
another Adult Night at Rhythms in Manville for some time in July.
Information will be forthcoming.
- We are planning to continue
the well received Movie Night again this year. We hope to schedule
one for July and one for August. So grab a blanket and some popcorn
and head to the picnic area once the sun sets for a family fun movie
under the stars!! We are grateful to the Szela family for graciously
donating the use of the DVD projector to make these nights happen.
Dates and information will be forthcoming. We welcome movie title
suggestions!
- The Labor Day Party is scheduled
for Saturday 8/30 from 3:30-8:30PM (Rain Date 8/31 3:30-8:30 PM)
All of these activities/events can
only be run with your help!! If there is an event you would like
to recommend adding to the calendar, please let us know. We are
always open for suggestions!
IMPORTANT WORK BOND JOB INFORMATION:
Remember, each family is required to
work off 4 hours to receive their bond money back. Depending on
the job you select and the intensity of the labor involved, you will
be given certain credit towards your bond. For example, Dinner
Nites, Ice Cream Socials, and most Craft Days run 2 hours; therefore,
a family who works these events will receive 2 hours credit towards
their bond.
Those families signing up for certain
jobs such as pool opening and closing will receive full 4 hour credit.
This year we are looking for members
to help out with the jobs listed below for BOTH the 4th of
July and Labor Day parties. Hours for work bond credit are in
parenthesis.
- Set up Crew (2 families) (2
hours)
- Clean up Crew (2 families)
(2 hours) – after the party is over
- Grillers (2 families) (4 Hours)
– to cook those burgers and dogs.
- Food Shoppers (2 families)
(4 hours) - purchase hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls, soda, condiments,
and paper goods about two days before party.
- Food Runners/helpers (2 families)
(2 hours) – bringing food to/from guard office during party.
Also be available for small “emergency” food purchases during day
of party.
- Goodie baskets for kids raffle
(1 family) (2 hours) - to purchase items and put together goodies baskets
raffled to kids during party.
Please consider signing up for one or
more events this summer to work off your bond and ensure a successful,
fun summer. You can sign up to run an activity by sending an e-mail
to Janine Erickson at Jerick9692@aol.com.
Thank you and Happy Summer!!
